Musicians and soccer balls | Fair Trade Sports

I attended a benefit concert Saturday night this past weekend
in Seattle. A gifted acoustic guitarist named href="http://www.tracebundy.com/">Trace Bundy
performed as a fundraiser for his (and our) favorite Seattle nonprofit,
Agros
International
. Trace’s ability to make a seemingly normal
acoustic guitar become a full band is nothing short of
astounding. I’ve never seen anyone pull off the caliber of music this
guy did in a live performance.

It was on a recent Agros trip to a distant village near Barillas,
Guatemala that Trace and his wife Becca handed off a thank you gift of
a Fair
Trade soccer ball
to the leader of a
community in formation called Nueva Esperanza.

If you are interested in an
innovative nonprofit model to support that
breaks the cycle of poverty for rural families in Central America and
Mexico, definitely spend a bit of time on href="http://www.agros.org/">Agros’ new website.
Susan and I first befriended the Agros crew when we moved to the
Seattle area in the 90s. They are an amazing and tireless group of
professionals making a significant impact on our world.

And if you are making a trip to another country, you might consider purchasing a fairly
traded soccer ball
to take on your trip as a thank
you gift or conversation ice-breaker (a deflated sports ball packs
well). Soccer is truly the world’s favorite sport and will be
well-received…guaranteed!
